MORI-OGAI-GEDENKSTÄTTE

The Mori Ogai Memorial intruduces the life and works of the Japanese writer, doctor, critic, dramatist and enlighter Mori Ogai (1862-1922), who studied medicine in Germany from 1884-1888. The Memorial is located in the first lodging of Ogai in Berlin. As an academic institution of Humboldt University it belongs to the Center for Japanese language and Culture. Its main tasks are research and translation. Publications: "Japonica Humboldtiana"/ Yearbook of the Memorial (Japanology), "Kleine Reihe"/ translations made by students of film scripts, literature, comics etc. The so-called computerized "Ogai Catalogue" is a collection of Ogai translations and works on Ogai in European languages. After visiting hours the memorial is host for lectures as well as various practical courses like calligraphy, ikebana, shogi, origami and kimono.
