The Telephone Historical Centre has two primary focuses. (1) To preserve the history of Telecommunications in general and in Western Canada (2) To educate the public including school children by exhibiting telecommunications artifacts and conducting programs. The museum is highly interactive and has an excellent multimedia theatre show on the history of the telephone. Curriculm based school programs are offered from Kindergarten to grades 4,5 and 6 (5 years to 14). The historical archives includes technical books on telecommunications from the mid 1800's, early telephone directories and other printed material. The artifact collection includes an original Williams Coffin telephone and many examples of early Strowger wall and desk sets. The Telephone Historical Centre is a member of the Canadian Council of Science Centres, the International Association of Transport and Communications Museums (IATM)and many national and provincial museum organizations.
