The largest open-air-museum in Germany with about 100 buildings is
on appproximatly 100 ha the Westphalian Open-Air-Museum in Detmold. With villages, farmhouses and granarys surrounded by gardens,meadows,fields and woods it with lots of animals gives a living picture that reflects the historical everyday - life in Westphalia.
The traditional, timber-framed buildings give with their arrangements of furnitures,pictures, tableware and other containts close information on the variety of people's life in the last five centuries.
The museum is also enganged in assembling specialised collections of items representing the historical and cultural heritage of Westphalia and in intensive research work on this.
