At the Great Lakes Historical Museum there are many artefacts and exhibitions which are of interest to children and families. The Tuncurry School building is furnished with older style school desks and children enjoy sitting in the desks and seeing what school days were like in "the old days". There is a 1960s fishing boat on display in the grounds of the musuem and the children always have a great time exploring the boat and having a go at steering the boat. The boat had a renaming ceremony during the museum's 21st birthday celebrations and a niece of the original builder, broke the traditional bottle over the bow.
