The Great Lakes Historical Museum is run wholly by volunteers who are members of The Great Lakes Historical Co-operative Society Ltd which was formed in 1976. Originally it was named The Wallamba & District Historical Co-operative Society, but was changed at a special meeting in 1997 to The Great Lakes Historical Co-operative Society Ltd. The members are involved in many activities which include: local and family history research; documentation and indexing of photographs; indexing of local historical data files; producing a monthly newsletter; maintenance of the museum's grounds; researching and publishing books on local history; establishing new displays; participating in local festivals; attending monthly meetings; attending social outings.
