Stoesen Bicentennial Collection
Commemorating the 200th Aniversary of the American Revolution
Tannenbaum Historic Park (THP) owns an approximately 2000-piece collection of artifacts from the American Revolution Bicentennial. Alex Stoesen, retired Professor of History at Guilford College, has made a donation of what may well be one of the largest compilations of Americana on a single subject. The artifacts range from t-shirts and belt buckles to kitchen items, comic books and works of (low and high) art. Each July 4th, a special themed exhibition from the collection will be the centerpiece of the annual Independence Day celebration at the park. The 1976 Bicentennial was a unique moment in American history when all Americans could connect their lives to the events that marked the birth of our country in 1776.
