The nuclear bomb shelter

A true highlight of your visit will be a guided tour through the authentic nuclear bomb shelter underneath the Ku’damm Karree, whose existence stayed unknown to the population of Berlin withal the central position. The NBC-shelter was built in 1973 at the time of the Cold War by order of the Federal Republic of Germany for the protection of the Berlin population. Even today it remains functional and is able to house civilians in the case of an emergency. The shelter is composed of two air-raid refuges, offers room to 3.592 people and supports with food, air and water for fourteen days. Since 1999 the nuclear bomb shelter can be visited by public. A guided tour through the shelter is contained in the admission and takes place on the hour. Meeting point is in the Foyer next to the cloakroom.
