End of Winter, High Sierra by Paul Lauritz
End of Winter, High Sierra 50" x 60" o/c

Discouraged with mining in Alaska and determined to become a full-time artist, Paul Lauritz came to Los Angeles in 1919 and opened a studio of portrait and decorative painting. Through the early 1920s, he made a living as a painter and teacher, holding classes at Chouinard and Otis Art Institutes. Lauritz favored the coastlines of Carmel and Monterey, as well as the Sierras and California deserts. Many of his paintings have a poetic, dream-like color tone, while others are bright and sun-filled.
