I Lifted Mine Eyes Unto The Hills, 1912 by William Wendt
I Lifted Mine Eyes Unto The Hills, 1912, 36" x 50" o/c

William Wendt was a highly sensitive and spiritual individual. His great love of nature is evident in his paintings, almost always verdant landscapes untouched and unpopulated by man. He stood in awe of God’s creations and often titled his paintings with passages from the Bible, such as I Lifted Mine Eyes Unto The Hills. Yet, his works never show any outward signs of religious zeal, and he advised against the conflicts of various creeds and sects. Wendt’s spirituality was universal and open to all who viewed his paintings.
