The Medusa painted at 1892 was the second painting by Franz von Stuck (1863-1928), the highly praised 19th century painter and "duke of arts" in Munich, purchased by Anton Gentil. Gentil had visited Franz von Stuck in his famous artists villa in 1905 and was very impressed and inspired to build his own "artists villa" in Aschaffenburg to house his vast collections.
