A piece of Quartermaster Furniture, a wash stand built at Fort Hays
A variety of exhibits and displays are located in several of the buildings at Fort Hays. These include weapons of the Frontier Army, archeological material recovered on-site, household items, and pieces of furniture. Among the latter is a unique collection of Quartermaster Furniture that was built in the Quartermasters Department at the fort and that was used primarily by the officers stationed here. The wash stand in this photo (shown supporting a letter press, used for copying original documents) is one of the more interesting and contains an official QMD stamp indicating its origin.
