Among the many artefacts on display in the main museum building relating to the shipping industry is a lifebuoy from "The Ellerslie".
"The Ellerslie" was built by John Wright's Shipyards in 1906. She weighed 252 tons, was 142ft in length and fitted with a 50hp Chapman engine.
She was owned by Mr Allan Taylor and was launched in 1906. She worked the coastal waters until 22 May 1913 when bound out from the Bellinger River estuary she was hit by big seas, turned and drifted onto the beach. The engines were salvaged and taken to Pyrmont for further use. The boilers were also salvaged and were later installed in "The Wallamba".
