A BOOK ON FOREIGN SAMARKANDIANA

In commemoration of spring holiday of Navruz the Samarkand International Museum of Peace and Solidarity made an unusual gift for the ancient city that has recently celebrated its 2750th anniversary. The museum has issued the book “Samarkand in All Continents” in Uzbek, Russian and English.

The project initiator and coordinator Anatoly Ionesov says that in this edition the museum’s activists aspired to collect, generalize and systemize for the first time the data on objects of foreign Samarkandiana and summarize results of long-term and hard work on this project.

An exhibition housed at the Samarkand State Museum of Cultural History of Uzbekistan presented a number of materials on this topic.

The book contains data on settlements, streets, hotels, restaurants, cafes, literary works, songs, musical compositions, paintings, television and radio programs, films and theatrical performances, shops, firms, companies, cooperatives, consumer goods, names and surnames, ships, flowers, games, space objects and other artifacts of Samarkandiana in various parts of the world. It also presents data on foreign famous people who were born or ever lived in Samarkand.

The book was authored by Director Anatoly Ionesov of the International Museum of Peace and Solidarity and prepared in cooperation with senior research officer Firuza Bahriddinova of the Samarkand State Museums and member of the “Esperanto” International Friendship Club Andrei Kharlamov.

It is the first pilot edition of this unique publication. The Samarkand Peace Museum plans to publish a complete illustrated version of this book. As for the “Samarkandiana” project, it is going on…
