The tasks of the institution: It performs a collecting activity on the area of county Veszprém according to special fields (archeology, history, ethnography, literature history, history of arts), enriches the stock of the objects of art, registers and elaborates the collected material, is supervising the collections, carries out scientific researcs work, organizes conferences and exhibitions. it carries on scientific propagation.
Details of the professional research carried out by the museum: Prehistoric archeology, archeology of the Roman age, the migration period, the Árpád's conquest, history of the Middle Ages, historical auxilary sciences (heraldry, sphragistrics, phaleristics, vexillology), historical, ecological, social and religious ethnography, ethnography and folklore, history of the lietrature, arts (art of glass), the handicraft, the manufacture technique, all this for the centuries XVII-XX.

In the permanent exhibition "Millennia of the Bakony and Balaton Uplands" visitors are shown the ancient history of the county, through the treasures of various archeological ages.
