LANDESMUSEUM KÄRNTEN

Carinthia´s biggest treasures are shown in more than 30 exhibition rooms and in a Roman "Lapidarium" (tomb stone display) in the museum´s park; objects from nature, ethnology, art and from history. The scientists of the museum work in the research, study, preservation and collection of the remarkable objects that give the interesting insight into periods of the past. For interested visitors also more than 120.000 books, newspapers and magazins are at their diposal in the museum´s library.
Between May and October we welcome you at our open-air museums "Archaeological Park Magdalensberg" (www.landesmuseum-ktn.at/magdalensberg.htm) showing one of Austria´s biggest excavation zones of an urban settlement from the late Celtic / early Roman time and "Roman Museum Teurnia"(www.landesmuseum-ktn.at/Teurnia.htm) showing an old Celtic, then Roman settlement, which in the 5th and 6th century was the fortified capital of the province Noricum and episcopal seat, and the Botanical Garden in Klagenfurt, where you can walk through the colourful and fascinating plant world of Carinthia and its neighbouring regions.
