The Museum Salles Cunha in Rio de Janeiro- Brazil, is focusing on the history of dentistry and preservation, filing, recovering and exhibiting of material belonging to the profession: artifacts, diplomas, books, journals, documents, photos, equipment and instruments. The museum has a permanent exhibit and organizes temporary exhibits as well as other small, temporary exhibits dedicated to facts and relevant names in dentistry. The most important piece of equipment owned is an SS White unit of 1897 with a chair covered in velvet, a tread motor and spittoom. The collection of the museum is made up of more than 4000 items including several manual burs, the book "Les Aphorismes d`Hippocrate" (1690), a medal of the centenary of the pro independence conspiracy of Minas Gerais (1790) with the effigy of Tiradentes (the dentist who was killed for his participation in the events). The collection also contains amalgamators and glass bottles of filling materials.To higligths its activities the museum has "MUSEUNOTAS" a monthly newsletter. The museum is filiated to ICOM international.
