SCIENCE MUSEUM OF WESTERN VA

The Science Museum of Western Virginia is a hands-on museum that seeks to fulfill its mission by bringing Science Education to the residents and schoolchildren of central and western Virginia. The museum consists of six major galleries and a traveling exhibit area. The six major galleries are: the Light and Sound Arcade, the Weather Gallery, the Live Animal Area, the Geology Gallery, the Body Tech Gallery, and the internet Gallery. The traveling exhibit gallery usually houses 3-4 different exhibits annually.

The Science Museum of Western Virginia is also home to the Hopkins Planetarium. The planetarium offers star shows year-round for visitors and for schoolchildren. Please call 540-342-5726 for show dates and times.

In the summer of 1999, the Science Museum of Western Virginia became one of the first museums to install a new MegaSystems, Inc. 8/70 Large-format film projector. It is housed in the MegaDome Theatre and plays films on a 40 foot Dome. Recent shows have included: "Mysteries of Egypt", "Grand Canyon", and "Whales". Starting July 1, 2000 is "Alien Adventure".
