ATLANTA HISTORY CENTER

From cotton fields to railroads, from the Civil War to civil rights, you'll find the real story of Atlanta's past at the Atlanta History Center. Tour the city's most exciting museum - the 83,000-square-foot Atlanta History Museum. In award-winning exhibitions, you'll learn how Atlanta grew into the South's leading city, about African American history, the Civil War and much more. The story continues at two houses listed in the National Register of Historic Places: Swan House, an elegant 1928 mansion, and Tullie Smith Farm, with its 1845 plantation-plain house and outbuildings. Additionally, visitors enjoy 33 acres of beautiful gardens and nature trails. McElreath Hall contains the Center's research library/archives with manuscript and photo collections totaling 3.5 million items. Located in Buckhead just three blocks from Peachtree Road, the Center also offers a Museum Shop, The Coca Cola Cafe, a restaraunt and picnic area. The Center is open Monday - Saturday 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Sunday noon-5:30 p.m. General admission includes the museums, all exhibitions, gardens and both historic homes. $12 adults, $10 students 18+ and senior citizens 65+, $7 youths 4-17, free for children 3 and under. Free for members. There is no charge for admission to the library/archives, the Cafe or the museum shop. The Center is located at 130 West Paces Ferry Road, N.W., Atlanta, GA 30305.
