The Fox in Art and Literature in the Reynard the Fox-Museum

Noble, beautiful and cunning: world-wide the fox ist considered with these attributes. In the fable he is called Reynard the Fox, in Art it has been worked on him in thousands of variations.

Here the fox shall be introduced in ART and LITERATURE. With an entry in the Guiness-Book of records the unique collection in the villa "fox's den" was honoured in 1996. The very look on the roof shows the fox as as wather fane, visible in far distance and going round for the pleasure of the visitors. Through the fox's trench the way leads to the museum of most unconventional style. Visitors from all over Europe appreciate the exhibits which were gathered in a period of 32 years.

Fox-Porcelain from the production of more than thirty different manufactures (e.g. Allach, Copenhagen, Meißen, Nymphenburg up to Zeh Scherzer & Co.) is presented there. Foxes in silver, copper and vienna bronce, the variety is inexhaustible. Noble pipes, walking sticks, chess pieces from ivory and meerschaum artists used to make copies of the fox.

There is detailed information for each display item, some of them more than 200 years old, wich works for more liveliness in the exhibition. The second field, literature about the fox Reynard, is covered by pictures, lithographies, steel- and wood engraving as well as post, play-, and advertising cards (1900-1920).

As an special highlight of the exhibition 185 different original editions concerning Reynard the Fox since 1752 and many first editions, among them the Goethe Reynard the Fox from 1794, can be seen.
Stucco work, monuments, mosaics and many other immovable works of art, with the fox as topic and scattered over Europe, are recorded in pictures. External special exhibition are on request again and again. The number of visitors showing interest is quite astonishing.
The proud owner and collector explains with pleasure the relation of the exhibits to REYNARD the FOX wich became part of literature long time ago.
