True Treasures

Right next to the famous Bamberg Cathedral, the Historical Museum in the Old Court showcases the precious collections of the World Heritage City during the summer season.
At the start of the 2026 exhibition season, this picturesque setting itself will become the subject of the special exhibition "Walls of Power. The Old Court Bamberg".

Additionally, art historically significant paintings invite visitors to the section "Picture Walk | Paintings Tell Stories". The exhibition "Jewish Life in Bamberg" brings an important facet of our culture into focus. "A New Era Dawns | Bamberg´s Bourgeoisie between Romanticism and the Founding Era" tells of the engagement of Bamberg´s citizens for the welfare of their city, new ideas, and the change in art tastes. "Time and Space" presents remarkably precise observation and measurement instruments, models of the prevailing world views, as well as sundials and mechanical clocks from the 16th to the 18th century. The cabinet exhibition "Fairytale Transformations" explores the apple woman in the works of E.T.A. Hoffmann. The Historical Association of Bamberg showcases "Highlights" of its extensive collections in its studio exhibition.

Families with children and teenagers can discover our exhibitions in a playful way. Pick up the free explorer sheet at the museum cash desk.
Additionally, the cultural education program offers a wide and interesting selection of participatory programs for children of all ages, school classes, and adults, and children’s birthdays can also be wonderfully celebrated at the museum. Details can be found on the corresponding subpages.

Furthermore, the Historical Museum Bamberg opens its doors annually for the popular International Museum Day. The Historical Museum Bamberg is part of the “Cathedral Hill Museums” around Bamberg Cathedral.
