The project museum.de was founded in 2009 by Uwe Strauch to create a central online location for museums and culture enthusiasts. The platform provides information about museums worldwide, which is maintained by the museums themselves. Users can find out about current exhibitions or search specifically for museums. The offer is supplemented by a smartphone app that also provides audio guides. In addition, there is a printed magazine that is published quarterly. Since 2015, museums have been able to upload their audio guides to museum.de, which can then be accessed via the app. Regular "museum meetups" take place, where museum staff and culture enthusiasts exchange ideas. Since 2017, museum.de has been conducting a survey on barrier-free offers in museums and is represented at the International Tourism Exchange in Berlin. In 2022, the option was introduced to offer quizzes to museum visitors and the first virtual museum tours were published in 2023. In the same year, the culture page Stadt.Land.Kultur. went online, where cities and municipalities present their cultural highlights.
