Description [EN]
The Villa Hohenhof in Hagen, together with its park-like gardens, is one of the few surviving Art Nouveau masterpieces. The former home of Karl Ernst Osthaus and his family was built between 1906 and 1908 and provides an insight into the life of the founder of the Folkwang Museum. Great artists were involved in the creation and design of this special building: It was designed by architect and designer Henry van de Velde. Henri Matisse painted the tile triptych “Nymph and Styr” for the conservatory and Johan Thorn-Prikker designed the staircase glazing and the stencil painting in the study. The gardens were recently reconstructed according to historical models.Villa Hohenhof is an anchor point of the “Route of Industrial Heritage” and has been part of the “Iconic Houses” network since 2015.
