Description [EN]

The Villa Hohenhof in Hagen, along with its park-like garden, is one of the few preserved Gesamtkunstwerke of the Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) style. The former residence of Karl Ernst Osthaus and his family was built between 1906 and 1908 and offers an insight into the life of the founder of the Folkwang Museum. Prominent artists contributed to the creation and design of this distinctive building: It was designed by architect and designer Henry van de Velde. Henri Matisse painted the tile triptych "Nymph and Satyr" for the conservatory, and Johan Thorn-Prikker designed the staircase glazing as well as the stencil painting in the study. Recently, the garden was reconstructed according to historical models.

The Villa Hohenhof is a key location on the "Route of Industrial Heritage" and has been part of the "Iconic Houses" network since 2015.
