King John's Castle is an impressive medieval fortress located in the heart of Limerick City in Ireland. The castle was built in 1200 on the orders of King John, the brother of Richard the Lionheart, and served as a royal fortress controlling the city and its surroundings. The castle is an excellent example of Norman military architecture and is known for its impressive towers, ramparts, and stunning views of the River Shannon. Over the centuries, the castle experienced many sieges and conflicts, including the famous Siege of Limerick in 1642 during the Irish Confederate Wars. Today, King John's Castle is a popular tourist destination and houses an interactive visitor center that brings the history of the castle and the city of Limerick to life.
