KunstLANDing – A Space for Contemporary Art and Encounter
The non-profit Neue Kunstverein Aschaffenburg e.V. runs KunstLANDing, one of the most exciting venues for contemporary art in the region. Located in a former brewery building, approximately 600 square meters unfold as a vibrant space for exhibitions and cultural events, bringing together art, architecture, and human connection.
For more than 30 years, the association has been consistently dedicated to contemporary and experimental art. With four to six changing exhibitions each year and numerous accompanying events, KunstLANDing is a dynamic place of exchange and inspiration. Its curatorial focus is international: renowned artists—including participants of documenta and major international biennials—have exhibited here, alongside young emerging artists and representatives of the regional art scene, who are regularly given their own platforms.
A defining feature of KunstLANDing is the building itself. The three-story structure, dating back to 1872, has a rich and eventful history and was carefully renovated in the late 1990s largely through the association’s own efforts. Today, this listed historic building offers a unique atmosphere: lofty rooms, preserved architectural details, and his authentic aesthetic make KunstLANDing an ideal setting for site-specific installations and experimental exhibition concepts. This distinctive interplay between art and space attracts more than 10,000 visitors from near and far each year.
The association is vibrant and sustainably structured. With around 450 members and steady growth, the Neue Kunstverein Aschaffenburg rests on a solid foundation. Since 2021, the venue has been managed by Executive Director Iris Solbès, relieving Elisabeth Claus, who had shaped the association for decades in her dual role as chair of the board and overall director since 1991.
Firmly embedded in the city’s cultural life, KunstLANDing sees itself as an active contributor to the independent cultural scene. It plays a formative role in Aschaffenburg’s cultural landscape and maintains a broad network. With the Aschaffenburg Cultural Days and the Cultural Night, the association has also established a major annual event that attracts more than 40,000 visitors with a diverse cultural program.
