Description [EN]

A museum of contemporary art housed in an almost completely preserved 11th-century Romanesque monastery complex – truly unique and offering an unforgettable experience!

There is art to discover on five floors, ranging from ancient sculptures to contemporary video art, as well as many architectural highlights. While the oldest preserved building in the city of Magdeburg was the most influential Premonstratensian monastery outside France in the Middle Ages, it has housed the city´s art museum since 1975. Today, the Kunstmuseum Kloster Unser Lieben Frauen is the most important exhibition venue for contemporary art and sculpture in Saxony-Anhalt. With its surrounding sculpture park, it is not only a quiet oasis in the city centre, but also a venue for all kinds of art and cultural events.
Special exhibitions complement the permanent collection and range from large-scale retrospectives to new discoveries and group exhibitions by national and international artists.

In addition to an app and a multimedia guide for individual visitors and regular guided tours, there are educational programmes for children, young people, senior citizens and other groups, also in foreign languages. The Kloster Unser Lieben Frauen, with its three-nave Romanesque basilica and picturesque cloister, is also the starting point of the “Straße der Romanik”.
