The museum
Antwerp is located on a river and has a large harbor. This fact has been the source of numerous encounters and lively exchanges for centuries. The MAS collects the traces of this exchange and tells new stories about the city, the river and the port, about the world that is different everywhere and about the relationship between Antwerp and the rest of the world. Get to know Antwerp in the world and the world in Antwerp.
The building
The MAS is a symbol of water. You will notice this as soon as you approach the museum. The wavy glass, the reflection in the water... From the roof you can see how the Scheldt connects the city with the world. The MAS also resembles a huge warehouse. The museum was inspired by the 19th century warehouses that characterize this district. A boulevard leads you along all the museum halls to the top. On the way, you can take a look at the impressive mosaic by Luc Tuymans on the museum forecourt. A breathtaking panoramic view of Antwerp awaits you at the top of the roof.
Picnic in and on the MAS
Would you like to combine a visit to the MAS with an unforgettable picnic? That is possible. The MAS makes the MAS Boulevard and the panoramic roof available to all picnic lovers. You bring your own food and drinks, find a suitable spot and spread out your picnic blanket. You can bring your own blanket or borrow one free of charge from the counter on the first floor.
