Description [EN]
The Borna Museum was founded in 1935 and experienced several location changes within the city. Since 1974, it has been housed in the Reichstor and the adjacent buildings. The reconstruction was completed in 1999. Since then, the areas of the permanent exhibition have been gradually renewed piece by piece. The exhibitions in the rooms of the gate do justice to its former function: museum guests can view the guardroom and learn about the judiciary in Borna. Climbing up the Reichstor is definitely worth it, especially because of the tower room located at the top and the view over the city center that can be enjoyed from there. The exhibitions in the adjacent buildings deal with the most important economic aspects of the city´s history: lignite mining and its processing industry, musical instrument construction, market gardening, and the history of the "Blue Riders," the carabinier regiment stationed in Borna. An excursus into the prehistoric and early history of the Borna region is also possible based on excavation finds. The museum work is based on the collection, which has existed for over one hundred years, distinguished by extensive archival records and photo collections as well as the complete edition of the Bornaer Tageblatt (1841-1945).
