The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) is an art museum specializing in modern and contemporary art. The museum is located in San Francisco, California, and was founded in 1935.

SFMOMA has a long and rich history. It was founded by Grace McCann Morley, the museum's first director, and was the first museum on the west coast of the USA to focus on modern art. In the early years of the museum, the collection was mainly built up through donations from artists and collectors.

In the 1990s, the museum was significantly expanded and modernized. A new building was added, designed by the renowned architect Mario Botta. In 2016, the museum was again expanded and modernized, this time by the architect Snøhetta. The expansion tripled the size of the museum and added more space to the exhibition.

SFMOMA houses an extensive collection of modern and contemporary art. The collection includes paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, prints, design and architecture. Famous artists whose works are exhibited in the museum include Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Richard Serra and Jeff Koons.

The museum offers a variety of exhibitions and programs that showcase both the museum's collection and contemporary artworks. SFMOMA is also known for its innovative exhibitions, which often include interactive and immersive artworks and installations. The museum also regularly hosts lectures, workshops, concerts and film screenings focused on modern art and culture.
