Description [EN]
Around 50,000 exhibits on the history of sport: memorabilia, sporting equipment and clothing, medals, trophies, autographs, souvenirs from the Olympics, football, athletics, winter sports and many others. Probably the largest private collection of its kind in Germany.
The collection was assembled by Frank Scheffka over more than four decades. Numerous sporting greats have donated items to it. Bob Beamon, the world-record long jumper from the USA, said after a visit: “I think your museum is one of the best in the world.”
The museum is intended not only to keep the memory of great sporting moments alive, but also to provide space for events. Even before the official opening, Olympic high-jump champion Heike Henkel visited, and Olympic champion Dieter Baumann was already shown around the rooms.
