Artfully landscaped Baroque park
Kassel can thank its Landgrave Charles for Karlsaue park. Over 300 years ago, he commissioned the creation of the Baroque garden along with the Hercules and the Cascades in Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe. Landgrave William IX later remodelled Karlsaue park into an English landscape garden.
Few cities can boast such an exceptional horticultural work of art in the direct vicinity of the city centre. A truly local recreational area measuring over 150 square kilometres – level and right beside the Fulda river. As you stroll through it, you immediately notice the symmetry of the park: its wide water channels and tree-lined paths all run towards the Orangery palace, which Charles used as a summer residence and now houses Hesse´s largest planetarium. This is also where the "planet hiking trail" starts.
The glorious "flower island" Siebenbergen and the elaborately designed rose hill are also worth a visit. Look forward to relaxing after a stroll through the city!
