Description [EN]

As diverse as Amberg's history: the City of Amberg Museum. The permanent exhibition begins with a journey back in time to Electoral Amberg (1329-1803) followed by an overview of the changing cityscape from the 16th until the 20th century. Original shops from Amberg's past allow you to immerse yourself in a time gone by. Amberg boasts a long tradition of beer brewing, which you can discover in an exhibit with numerous fascinating objects. Explore 200 years of fashion, a traditional hair salon and other workshops of traditional crafts. From there, we dive into Amberg's industrial history including the metalworking industry around the "Luitpoldhütte", the gun factory Amberg, faience and earthenware made in Amberg as well as the enamel company "Gebrüder Baumann".

A particular highlight is the exhibition A TRIBUTE TO MICHAEL MATHIAS PRECHTL, which presents the most complete collection of works by the internationally renowned artist Michael Mathias Prechtl. Opened in 2016 it offers various multimedia stations which bring history to life.
