Stiftung DIE SCHEUNE - Sammlung Tillmann

In the townscape of Hinsbeck-Hombergen, the Textilmuseum Die Scheune serves a mediating role for the region's textile tradition.

It is located in the Nettetal district of Hinsbeck-Hombergen and is housed in the barn of a small half-timbered building that once served as a customs station and dates back to the 17th century. The property includes the Alt Kämpken farmstead, first mentioned in 1619 and acquired by the museum's founders in 1975.

The museum's collection grew out of a private assemblage; in 1983 the museum was opened in a barn on the property. To ensure its long-term preservation, a foundation was established in 2001.

The exhibition mainly presents tools and machinery of the Lower Rhine textile manufactory and the local linen weaving trade. It demonstrates the working processes of textile production and features rotating thematic exhibition series with a textile focus. Among the operational pieces is a Jacquard loom that can be programmed with punched cards. In this way, the museum conveys the working methods, technological change, and cultural significance of the region's textile production.
