Description [EN]
The Tokugawa Art Museum is located in Nagoya, Japan, and is renowned for its extensive collection of artifacts from the Tokugawa Shogunate era. Established in 1935, it is one of the oldest private museums in Japan. The museum was founded by the Tokugawa family itself to preserve and make accessible their precious family possessions and cultural artifacts. The collection comprises about 10,000 objects, including ancient scrolls, armors, tea ceremony utensils, paintings, and furniture. A particular highlight is the National Treasure book 'Tale of Genji', an illustrated manuscript from the 12th century. The museum also regularly hosts changing special exhibitions and educational programs to promote understanding and appreciation of Japanese culture and history.
