On the ground floor, you will find historical advent calendars, Christmas tree decorations from Thuringia and Franconia, as well as decorated Christmas trees from the Biedermeier period to the post-Second World War era. Folk art from the Ore Mountains in the form of angels and miners, pyramids, and Christmas-themed ceiling lights along with the Wendt & Kühn figures, which have been popular for over 100 years, can be found on the upper floor. Additionally, the special exhibition, which has focused on a wide range of themes in recent years. Here, you can get an initial impression of the individual exhibition rooms.

The permanent exhibition includes objects from all German regions where Christmas items were produced, with a large share of production being exported overseas well before the First World War. The shine of the glass Christmas tree decorations in display cases and a traveling salesman´s sample case evokes memories for older visitors, while younger ones see them as treasure chests from the Christmas world. Santa´s workshop takes everyone back to childhood, transporting them to a time when there were still wishes that couldn´t all be fulfilled.

Our Historic Shop

After visiting the exhibition, you can leisurely browse in the Historic Shop - not just during the Christmas season. Here, you will find special and rare items related to Christmas, such as glass tree decorations from small Thuringian workshops, the world of small musical angels from traditional Ore Mountain workshops, nostalgic advent calendars, and extensive Christmas literature. Cut-out dolls, Schildkröt doll children from Thuringia, Hermann teddies, and old tin toys make many visitors nostalgic.

Our Events & Markets

The museum work is complemented by a variety of events and markets. Each year, a program designed specifically for the Cultural Night in the summer shows how charming a visit to the Christmas House can be. Book presentations and readings in the lecture room not only deepen the current exhibition themes. Additionally, there are four special markets each year: the Easter Market, the Book Flea Market, the Advent Calendar Market, and the Marzipan Market, offering visitors a wide variety of items over a whole weekend in the rooms of the first floor with free entry.
