In the Berlin district of Mitte, Direktorenhaus Berlin houses a gallery as well as an art and cultural centre. It is located in the complex of the Alten Münze, the former state mint in Berlin’s historic centre.
Opened as a venue for applied arts in 2010, the Direktorenhaus had previously stood empty for around twenty years and had fallen into a dilapidated state; the operators of the Direktorenhaus carried out a renovation, thereby preventing its decay.
Today, the Direktorenhaus regularly hosts design exhibitions and other cultural events, including the international Illustrative-Festival. The house is home to Musicboard Berlin and provides studios and rehearsal rooms to renowned artists and musicians, for example the Berlin rock band Bonaparte. The Direktorenhaus also organises the international exhibition tour "Handmade in Germany" and publishes the Objects Journal.
