At the northern tip of the island, in List on Sylt, is the Erlebniszentrum Naturgewalten Sylt, an exhibition and events venue that brings the forces, diversity and dynamics of the sea and the coast to life.
On an exhibition area of 1,500 square metres, thematically designed experience spaces introduce the living environments of the Wadden Sea. In addition, meteorological phenomena, the tasks of coastal protection and aspects of renewable energy are explained. The outdoor area extends over roughly 800 square metres and features a thematically coordinated play area. A catering area adjoins the exhibition.
The centre also serves as a conference and seminar venue for nature conservation topics. Sponsors and partners include local associations, the municipality of List, various conservation organisations, research and rescue institutions, and other regional institutions and foundations that support the concept. On 27 April 2022 the new "Syltdome" opened in the building, a 360-degree cinema that offers additional immersive presentation possibilities.
