The historic ironworks Peitz, located directly on the Peitzer Ponds, is one of the most important technical monument sites in Brandenburg. The most valuable building is the original blast furnace and foundry hall from 1810, which is now open to visitors as a technical museum. The local turf stone was processed here into wrought iron as well as cast products for domestic, commercial and military use. Numerous objects, display boards and models lead us into the past of the oldest still functioning ironworks in Germany. In the middle of the 19th century, the smelting operation in Peitz was discontinued. In the former mill of the factory there is now the Fishery Museum, where guests can learn interesting facts about the long tradition of the Peitzer pond industry and carp farming. A special mineral and fossil collection as well as the water exhibition in the former turbine house are included in the museum tour.
