Description [EN]
The Culture Museum St. Gallen holds one of the most significant cultural history collections in Eastern Switzerland. It focuses on the history of the city and region of St. Gallen (city model, linen industry). Additionally, it includes St. Gallen´s medical history, Swiss porcelain (18th century), and costumes. Special highlights are the original historical rooms. The ethnological department offers encounters with ethnicities from around the globe. A significant portion of the objects are donations from the people of St. Gallen. Two internationally renowned collectors, Han Coray and Eduard von der Heydt, are represented. "Fascination Archaeology" provides an introduction to the archaeology of the canton and city. A main theme is the excavations of recent years (Rapperswil, Weesen, St. Gallen´s old town). An interactive lab explains how archaeology arrives at its insights. The Culture Museum places great importance on offering a rich range of activities for families and children (children´s museum, museum education).
