Description [EN]
The Ludwigsburg Museum is a museum of art and cultural history focusing on the city of Ludwigsburg and the region of Württemberg. It preserves testimonies of regional art and history and houses a unique collection of Württemberg prints as well as the most comprehensive collection on the history of Ludwigsburg. The collection is continuously expanded with carefully selected cultural artefacts that complement the existing holdings and document the history and present of the former royal residence.
The museum presents the three-hundred-year history of the planned city of Ludwigsburg in all its cultural diversity, features special exhibitions on current issues relating to history and contemporary society, and thus holds a unique position within the museum landscape. The stories and cultures of Ludwigsburg are understood, explored, and communicated as the ways of life, interests, and memories of people from diverse backgrounds.
The Ludwigsburg Museum sees itself as a mediator and active participant in social change. It follows a holistic understanding of sustainability, as outlined in the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
The museum develops its programme through interdisciplinary dialogue with numerous partners on current topics, perspectives, and their historical roots. Through a wide range of educational and outreach activities, visitors and interested members of the public are actively involved in the museum’s work.
