An Icon of industrial heritage
Come discover the “fairest of them all.” Dortmund’s Zeche Zollern Colliery ranks among the most beautiful testaments to Germany’s industrial past. Built from 1898 to 1904, the stained-glass Art Nouveau entrance to the engine house is an industrial heritage icon. In the 1960s, as industrial buildings were being recognised as historic landmarks, this building saved the entire complex from demolition. Marvel at the architecture of open cast facilities, climb the pithead frame, see behind magnificent brickwork façades and dive into the underground world of miners.
