Description [EN]

The Mönchehaus Museum in Goslar features rotating exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. The museum was founded in 1978 with the aim of providing a suitable exhibition venue for the international recipients of Goslar’s “Kaiserring” award. The City of Goslar has awarded this prestigious art prize once a year since 1975 to an outstanding contemporary artist. Past recipients include Joseph Beuys, Max Ernst, Victor Vasarely, Christo, Georg Baselitz, Gerhard Richter, Olafur Eliasson, and, most recently, Wiebke Siem. In 2015, Boris Mikhailov received the coveted award.

In the Ackerbürgerhaus, built in 1528, with its half-timbered buildings, vaulted cellars, and sculpture garden, you can experience modern art in a historic setting. A rich program of events—including guided tours, artist talks, lectures, workshops, and concerts—deepens your understanding of contemporary art.
