On the outskirts of Giornico in Leventina in Ticino stands La Congiunta, a house dedicated to exhibiting sculptural works.
The building was constructed between 1989 and 1992. Its exterior shell is deliberately restrained and reveals little of what lies inside. Natural light enters through long skylights in the roof, providing focused illumination for the displayed works. Inside, unnecessary fittings were omitted so that the perception of the sculptures remains undisturbed.
The layout comprises three main rooms of varying heights; four chambers adjoin the final room.
La Congiunta was specifically conceived for the works of the Swiss sculptor Hans Josephsohn and displays about 30 reliefs and half-figures dating from 1950 to 1991.
