The Museo Nacional del Prado, often simply referred to as the Prado Museum, is one of the most important art museums in the world and is located in Madrid, Spain. It was opened in 1819 and houses one of the worldás most comprehensive collections of European art, ranging from the 12th to the early 20th century. The collection is based on the former Spanish Royal Collection and includes masterpieces by artists such as Velázquez, Goya, El Greco, Rubens, Bosch, and Titian. The building itself was designed by architect Juan de Villanueva and is an outstanding example of neoclassical architecture. Over the years, the museum has been expanded and renovated multiple times to accommodate the growing collections and visitor numbers.
