In the cultural fabric of the Upper Bavarian town of Tegernsee, the Museum Tegernseer Tal serves as the regional local-history museum.
Since 1999 its collections have been housed in the Alten Pfarrhof at Seestraße 17. The exhibition spans seventeen rooms and displays around 850 objects, covering the period from the 14th century to the present.
Thematically, the legacy of the Benedictine monastery of Tegernsee (746–1803) takes centre stage; this collection includes, among other things, books, portraits of the abbots, and altar panels. This focus is complemented by evidence of rural culture, everyday objects from the 18th to the 20th century, and examples of local craftsmanship.
The museum thus conveys both ecclesiastical and secular aspects of regional history and illustrates the development of monastic life, rural society, and craft traditions at Tegernsee.
