Nahe der Natur - Mitmach-Museum für Naturschutz

Panorama of: Nahe der Natur - Mitmach-Museum für Naturschutz (c) by Michael Altmoos 2026
Description [EN]

The unique combination of museum and nature conservation, with buildings (indoor: collection, exhibitions) and outdoor area: https://www.nahe-natur.com

Outdoor: In the museum-owned sanctuary (8 hectares) there is a wilderness concept (4 km trails in an old quarry forest) plus designed natural gardens with model biotopes; special attractions are e.g. the magical moss garden, and in summer the butterfly garden ('hot spot' of native butterflies) and wildflower meadows.

But the (indoor) collection is the heart of the institution. And here, it is particularly focused on nature conservation. It comprises natural specimens, but also artefacts and symbols, stories and works of art, media and documents relating to nature conservation in the broadest sense and to the relationship between humans and nature. A scecial and unique segment ist the ‘Nature Conservation Music Collection’: The collection comprises audio files, CD and Vinyls of all kinds of music on nature conservation themes, environmental songs and nature songs. This encompasses all styles and languages. - Via Web-Radio NATURADIO you can listen free and world-wide around the clock to this great variety: https://www.naturadio.net
