he Naturhistorische Gesellschaft, founded in 1801, is the greatest society for natural science in Germany whose members work on a voluntary basis and which is widely known not only in its centre area of Franconia, but far beyond the borders of Germany.
About 1600 members can work on a scientific basis in 11 departments, amateurs as well as experts. There are seminars, excursions, experimental scientific work, and ongoing publications in the following fields: archaeology, prehistory, botany, ethnology, geology, karst and speleology, mycology and herbalist studies, regional geography, entomology.

The Nuremberg Natural History Society is more than 200 years old and one of the largest voluntary scientific associations in Germany.
