Vasamuseet

Description [EN]
The Vasa Museum in Stockholm is one of Sweden´s most famous museums, dedicated to the history of the warship Vasa. The museum opened in 1990 and is located on the island of Djurgården. The Vasa was a Swedish warship that sank in Stockholm harbor on its maiden voyage in 1628. The ship was salvaged in 1961 and is now the best-preserved ship from the 17th century. The museum offers a variety of exhibitions that explore the history of the Vasa, life on board, and Swedish naval history. Visitors can view the impressive ship up close and learn about the extensive restoration work required to present the ship in its current state. The Vasa Museum is not only a significant cultural heritage site but also an important research center focused on the conservation and restoration of wooden ships. It attracts over a million visitors annually, making it one of the most visited museums in Scandinavia.
