The Musée des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux is inviting visitors to its new exhibition, “Childhood Stories”, starting on June 13, 2025. This thematic display, running until January 5, 2026, is located in the Lacour Wing (Salle des Actualités). It explores the theme of childhood through around 50 artworks, including paintings, sculptures, medals, and graphic works from the museum’s collections, spanning the 17th to the 20th century.
The artworks in this exhibition serve as sources of inspiration for poetic and personal memories. In a special project, patients from Cadillac Hospital and seniors from the Grand Bon Pasteur care center selected their favorite works and shared their reflections during writing and art workshops. These stories and memories are an integral part of the exhibition and can be listened to via audio guides on-site or through your smartphone.
“Childhood Stories” also acts as a prelude to another exhibition, “Sage comme une image? Childhood through the eyes of the artist (1790-1850)", which will be on view from July 10 to November 3, 2025, at the Galerie des Beaux-Arts.
For over ten years, the Musée des Beaux-Arts has been dedicated to promoting social inclusion. Collaborations with hospitals, social institutions, and even prisons highlight its mission to make art and culture accessible to everyone.
The exhibition is curated by Isabelle Beccia, Doctor of Art History and Head of Institutional Outreach, with support from scenographers Philippe Casaban and Éric Charbeau.
“Childhood Stories” is not only a tribute to childhood but also a remarkable example of how art connects people and brings personal stories to life. A must-see for art lovers and culture enthusiasts visiting Bordeaux!
