Description
Welcome to the Lette Local History Museum!
The exhibition inside the building tells the story of Lette’s history and daily life. It was created by the Lette Local History and Tourism Association.
On the ground floor, you’ll find fun facts about Lette, sedimentary deposits dating back thousands of years, and the history of Lette told through 20 objects. On the digital timeline, you can click your way through time from the Big Bang to the present day.
You can tell that Lette is a “windmill village” just by looking at the small windmill outside the building—it’s the town’s landmark. And through the large gate, you can glimpse inside the cozy “Besseler Stube” and admire the craftsmanship of a master carpenter from Lette.
Residents of Lette will guide you through the stairwell, showing you their favorite treasures.
Upstairs, the focus is first on early history: You’ll follow in the footsteps of pre-Christian cultures, find a mysterious fortress, and discover a lost castle. We’ll also search for an important bell—and find a different one.
From the 20th century, we’ll tell you about the farmer Brinkschulte and his wife Rosalie, because their life story is a very special distillation of Germany’s turbulent history right up through the 1950s. And at Heinrich Puhe’s hair salon, you’ll see how German society has changed since then.
In the second room, we’ll show you what life is like in Lette today: For example, what the people of Lette’s favorite spots are, who counts as a neighbor out here in the countryside, and why the community center is always right on your way. Or do you want to find out which club suits you best? Or would you like to observe wildlife at night? And learn what the school is all about?
In the third room, you can see a wide variety of workshops and take a selfie as a farmer, baker, weaver, or shoemaker.
Glad you’re here! Come on in!
